Yes, I think.
When metal studs are used,
the screws for installing drywall have a fine thread, which
grabs the steel much better. So fine-thread drywall screws
should work... but I'm not sure about using them for hanging
wall cabinets. Drywall screws are rather brittle, and if
something tries to make them flex they'll usually just snap
instead of bend.
And you might need screws
with self-drilling tips so they'll drill their way into the
metal. Self-drilling sheet metal screws (such as #8 or #10)
could be used, I suppose, if they are long enough to penetrate
the steed studs by a fraction of an inch. That rule about
screws penetrating the studs by an inch... that doesn't apply
to steel studs. If you can get the screw to go in a quarter
inch they'll be just as good as if they went in an inch. So if
the cabinets are 3/4" thick at the attachment strip, and
the drywall is 1/2" thick, then I'd try using 1-1/2"
or 2" long #8 self-drilling sheet metal screws with a
wide pan head or a hex head. I would not use flat head screws
because they tend to crack the wood.
