Cement Board Thickness

I am planning to replace the old vinyl tile with ceramic tile floor at foyer in my home. I am not sure what thickness of Wonderboard I should use, 1/2" or 1/4" on the old plywood sheathing. Since I prefer keeping tile floor as thin as I can to avoid big threshold between adjacent carpet and new tile floor, is 1/4" thick Wonderboard acceptable?

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks

Xiaoyin G.

The thickness of cement board on the floor really depends on matching other flooring heights. 1/4" Wonderboard is fine on floors, as long as the existing floor is reasonably stiff (no bouncing when someone walks on it).

I prefer to secure it with thin-set mortar and screws, as our article points out.

As far as I know, the only place 1/4" Wonderboard won't work is on walls. It is too flexible for walls.
